Detection of safe activation of shutdown valves and blowdown valves

Solenoid valves that are used on Shutdown valves have many known failure modes. The most challenging to detect are when the air is not released as it should be, because the piston hangs after the current in the magnetic coil is switched off, or the airway is blocked.

Errors of this type can only be detected in the shutdown sequence. After the power to the solenoid valves has been switched off and the air from the actuator has been vented out, such a fault will be difficult to detect during inspection. These failure mechanisms will occur in normal operation, but are impossible to detect until the safety system is activated.

Our patented solution will detect a combination fault on the magnet and blocked airway (or hydraulics) the first time the valve is activated incorrectly. This can be by a real security activation or by a regular test. The error will be reported to the Azure database. The online dashboard will show information and save data for historical use. With an API you can export this information to other controll systems.

It is also important to note that our system does not adversely affect the safety function of the solenoid valve, or require SIL certified components to be recertified.

HIGHLIGHTS:

ESD/PSD/BD VALVE ACTIVATION DETECTION:

WIRELESS, independent detection of pneumatic ES D PSD/BD valve activation without interfering/degrading the safety integrity of the valve control system. Feedback of all solenoid valve activations and movement are monitored to confirm correct or incorrect activation and the existence of any Dangerous Undetected (DU) failure in the safety system .

ESD/PSD/BD VALVE LEAK QUANTIFICATION:

WIRELESS, independent nonintrusive detection of internal leaks in shutoff valves after closing the valve. Leak rates may be identifying in three intervals such as: NO LEAK (leak less than 0,1kg/sec), SMALL LEAK (leak exceeding 0,1 kg/sec) and LARGE LEAK (leak greatly exceeding 0,1 kg/sec).

DETECTION OF POSITION, STICTION AND FRICTION IN VALVES:

Independent detection of wear and tear on ESD/PSD/BD valve by monitoring and storing internally on the valve the change of movement, stiction and friction of the valve body over time. Identified thresholds are transmitted wireless to a CMMS.
